Affordable Medicines Europe operates through various Working Groups. These working groups – currently consisting of legal, regulatory, advocacy and Falsified Medicines Directive working groups – address the variety of issues facing the independent distribution industry. Experts of each field take part to the Working Group meetings and make decisions that are then taken to the Board for final approval. Working Groups assembly 3-4 times a year.
Affordable Medicines Europe is governed by its Board of Directors that consists of one Member representing each of the countries from which the association has at least one Member. This includes the President. The Members of the Board of Directors are elected by a simple majority vote by the General Assembly of the
association.
The term of office of Members of the Board is one year, which can be renewed without limitation. The term ends with the election of a new board member.
The Board assembles four times a year. Its principal task is to set Affordable Medicines Europe’s strategic objectives and approve the association’s policy
positions as well as ensure good and transparent governance.
Jörg Geller is the CEO of the German pharmaceutical company Kohlpharma and has served as President of Affordable Medicines Europe since 2019. With over 20 years of experience, he has developed deep expertise in parallel trade of pharmaceuticals. In his role as President, he actively engages with EU and national policymakers to promote a well-functioning Single Market for medicines. He is a strong advocate for fair competition and for strengthening the role of independent distribution in improving access to affordable medicines across Europe.
General Assembly of Affordable Medicines Europe assemblies twice a year, in May and November. General Assemblies are held in different countries and cities where the association’s members are based.
General Assembly is responsible for taking any major decisions on the functioning of the association, for example on the annual budget, election of Board of Directors, or approval of new members. All Members have the right to take part and vote in the General Assembly.
